The Indian women's hockey team suffered a crushing defeat in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics as Great Britain won the game 4-1 at the Oi Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. After losing to Germany in their second match, this is India's third successive defeat. In their opening game, Netherlands had defeated India on Sunday. Before the knockout stage on August 2, India will now face Ireland (July 30, 2021), and South Africa (July 31, 2021).

Great Britain made a great start by taking advantage of poor defending by the Indian women's hockey team. The British players had managed to score their first goal in the second minute of the match to take a 1-0 lead in just 75 seconds into the match. Great Britain also won the women's hockey gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

The first quarter saw a disappointing performance from the Indian women's hockey team. Although India got a penalty corner, they could not convert it into a goal. The Indian defense was having a tough time while attempting to tackle Britain's aggressive attacking game.

India managed to improve their performance by the end of 1st half. After an early goal in the first quarter, Hana Martins doubled Great Britain's lead by scoring another goal to help her side take 2-0 lead before India's Gurjit Kaur found a way to get one back as she converted a penalty corner into a goal.

India failed to convert lots of penalty corners into goals. They started the third quarter by putting immense pressure on their opponents but everything fell apart when Great Britain found the third goal. At the end of third quarter, India were 1-3 against Britain.

India failed to get any momentum in the fourth and final quarter as well and the defending Olympic champions hit the final nail by scoring their fourth goal of the match.
