New Delhi: After Mitchell Marsh, now Australia’s premiere fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the India series due to injury.

Starc would not take any further part in the Test series due to a stress fracture in his right foot. He will fly back to Australia on an immediate basis.

Australia’s physiotherapist confirmed that Starc had complained about some discomfort in the Bengluru Test and the team management decided not to risk him.

"Mitchell experienced some pain in his right foot during the second Test in Bangalore which unfortunately had not subsided a few days after the Test as we had hoped," team physiotherapist David Beakley said.

"We made the decision to scan his foot in Bangalore this morning and unfortunately it has revealed a stress fracture,” added Beakley.

Starc’s injury is considered to be a major blow to the visitors as he is one of their main exponents of reverse swing.

The series is one-a-piece with two more Tests to play. The second Test will begin in Ranchi from March 16.
