Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup Final by defeating Athletic Bilbao 2-0. Luka Modric's 38th-minute curling goal and Karim Benzema's 52nd-minute penalty sealed the deal for Madrid in the final.


Carlo Ancelotti's team is going through a dominating phase as they have just lost one game in the last 20 matches. Madrid defeated Barcelona, (3-2) while Athletic Bilbao had defeated Atletico Madrid in the semi-final. The match was played at the King Fahad Stadium in Riyadh.


Real Madrid was 2-0 up by the 52nd minute. Things were smooth until Athletic Bilbao was awarded a penalty after Eder Militao of Madrid was penalised with a red card in the 87th minute. To Madrid's delight, Raul Garcia missed the penalty.

With this, Marcelo won his 23rd Trophy at Real Madrid. "He's one of the greats, a legend of this club," said Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.


Real Madrid faces Elche on January 19 in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League. They are five points clear of the top in the La Liga this year.
