India's shuttler duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik to win the final of Indonesia Open 2023 on Sunday (June 18). This happens to be the Indian pair's first win in nine match against the world champion doubles pair. Despite the Malaysian stars being a bit of favourites heading into this game, it was the star Indian duo who won the match quite convincingly in the end in straight games 21-17, 21-18.

This is a historic feat for India as no Indian shuttler had managed to clinch the  World Tour Super 1000 title prior to this which had been in existence since 2018. The contest saw the strength of the character of the Indian men's doubles duo as they had a bit of a stutter at the start but not only did they pick up pace but even managed to take a slender 11-9 lead heading into the mid-game interval after which they held on to their lead to win the first game easily.

After clinching the first game, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were determined to not let the opportunity to win slip away from their hands and dominated from the word go. In the end, even though Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik came close, they fell short in what was a pressure game.

With this victory, the Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS) shuttlers become the maiden Indian pair to have clinched a BWF Super 1000 event and also the first Indian duo to win at least one S100, S300, S500, S750 & S1000 event.
