Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Feb 5 (ANI): The Racquet Rangers defeated Mumbai Mavericks 40-30 in an intense battle to win the Transcom Super Squash Juniors League Mumbai crown at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana here on Sunday.

Dhairya Shah essayed a key role in the seven-match tie with an 11-5, 11-6 victory against Ranbir Minocha in the fourth boys singles match. It was an upset of sorts as Dhairya had not won against Ranbir in their past meetings.

Aarya Belsare's 11-8, 11-3 win over Nayna Taneja in the third girls' singles also played a crucial role as she was the only winner among the girls.

Priyaan Thakker and Rutva Samant had earlier given the Rangers a flying start by winning the first two boys singles.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Mavericks upstaged Wiz Kids 50-20 to advance to the finals. In the other semi-final, the Rangers downed Phantom Stars 40-30.

Mavericks' Devay Mehta's victory over Ekambir Singh of Wiz Kids stood out. He lost the first set 8-11 but bounced back to win the next two and the match 11-6 and 11-5.

The other semi-final between Rangers and Phantom Stars was no less exciting as after the first four boys singles, the scores were tied 2-2. But Kavya Bansal and Sharan Punjabi won their respective girls singles matches to help the Rangers sneak to victory. (ANI)
