New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final is set to be played between heavyweights Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals at Ahmedabad's iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural IPL title back in 2008 will aim to lift the prestigious IPL trophy for the second time after 14 years.


Rajasthan is playing the IPL 2022 final for the second time after Rajasthan Royals won their first title in 2008 under the captaincy of the late Shane Warne. Earlier this year, Warne died of a heart attack in Thailand on March 4. Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan is determined to pay tribute to the 'king of spin' by winning IPL title for the second time.


Ahead of the start of the IPL 2022 final, Rajasthan Royals will honor its players who were part of the IPL 2008 winning team. According to a report in The Times of India, Rajasthan has invited Ravindra Jadeja, Munaf Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Swapnil Asnodkar, Dinesh Salunkhe, Siddharth Trivedi and Graeme Smith for this.


The report states that all these players will be present in Ahmedabad during the final. Smith returned to commentary in the IPL and is already in Ahmedabad. However, some foreign players who were part of IPL 2008 winning squad will not be a part of the felicitation ceremony.


After five long years, IPL is set to get a new champion. Before the start of IPL 2022, Rajasthan Royals were not the fan favorites to win the IPL 2022 final but the team is now only one win away from winning the IPL trophy for the second time. The final match between Rajasthan and Gujarat will start at 8:00 pm IST.
