R Ashwin Buys Chess Team: Viswanathan Anand, India's chess legend, has welcomed star India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to his sport in grand style. Notably, while Ashwin has no plans himself of playing professional chess but has ventured into the sport indirectly as he is now the owner of a chess franchise in a global competition. Notably, Ashwin, a veteran of 100 Test matches, purchashed stakes of the American Gambits, a new team that is set to take part in the Global Chess League which happens to be a join venture of the Tech Mahindra and the International Chess Federation.


Ashwin, a sporting icon himself, was given a stylish welcome by Anand another sporting icon of Chennai. Anand gave a welcome to Ashwin in Superstar Rajnikanth style.

Six Franchises To Compete In Second Edition Of The League


As many as six franchises were unveiled for the second edition of the competition which is happening in London from October 3 to October 12. Amrican Gambits, which Ashwin now co-owns along with Prachura PP and Venkat K Narayana will replace Chingari Gulf Titans.

Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, Ganges Grandmasters, Triveni Continental Kings and Mumba Masters- the five other franchises- will all be returning for a second season.
