New Delhi: Things are not going as per the plan for India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu. The country's only individual mutiple medallist at the Olympics is struggling to find her rhythm and form ever since she returned to action after an injury layoff. Recently, she failed to defend her title successfully at the Swiss Open following which she has now dropped out of the Women's Singles top 10 ranking for the first time in over six years.
The 27-year-old was last ranked outside of the top 10 before November 2016 after which she had constantly enjoyed a ranking among the word's best 10 players. While that is a testimony to the former world champion's consistency, it also suggests that the shuttler has seen some real decline in form as she slipped two more places to take the 11th spot with 60,448 points in the latest BWF rankings.
Sindhu, who has record a career-best ranking of 2, had been in the top 10 since November 2016 after having first breached the top 10 rankings in 2013. She recently parted ways with her South Korean coach Park Tae-sang. She will be in action next at the Spain Masters 2023 and will hope to put up an improved show after disappointing performances in the Malaysian Open, Indian Open as well as the All England Open other than the recent defeat in the Swiss Open.
As far as the men's singles rankings are concerned, India's HS Prannoy continues to be the country's top-ranked shuttler as he stays stagnant at the 8th place. While Kidambi Srikanth has slipped one position and is now world numeber 21, youngster Lakshya Sen was ranked 25th.
In the men's doubles rankings, recently crowned Swiss Open champion Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty did no harm to their reputation but their rankings didn't improve either but they consolidated their place at number 6. As far as the women's doubled rankings are concerned, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand remained at the 18th position.
