Omicron Threat: The number of Omicron cases in the United Kingdom was a cause of concern. The number of daily Omicron infections in the UK has been estimated as being at 200,000, according to the UK Health Security Agency.

England's football league, the Premier League also saw 42 Covid-19 cases amongst players and staff. Thus, Brentford vs Manchester United and Brighton vs Tottenham matches were postponed by the League. United made a request to postpone the match after some staff and four players returned being Covid positive after a weekend game against Norwich City.

Now that two games were postponed in three days owning to the Covid-19 outbreak, dark clouds loom large over the Brighton vs Machester United game slated to play this Saturday. If the cases continue to increase in the Premier League, then Saturday's game will also have the same fate as that of the Brentford vs United one.

“First team operations at the club’s Carrington Training Complex were closed down today to help control the outbreak and minimize risk of further infection among players and staff. The league wishes a quick recovery to those players and staff with COVID-19," read a statement from the Premier League.

The Premier League did not postpone a single game due to Covid-19 this season. The estimates based on modelling come after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in a televised statement on Sunday, warned that Britain faces a "tidal wave" of Omicron infections.
