Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Indian Cricket team as it emerged victorious in the T20 World Cup 2024, defeating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final, securing their first ICC trophy in 13 long years. Political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
In a video statement, PM Modi said, "Our team brings T20 World Cup home in style, we are proud of them. Indian cricket team won the World Cup and also hearts of crores of Indians; no small achievement that it did not lose a single match". "CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC," PM Modi posted on X.
President Droupadi Murmu hailed India's "never-say-die spirit" as she wrote, "My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the T20 World Cup. With the never-say-die spirit, the team sailed through difficult situations and demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the tournament. It was an extraordinary victory in the final match. Well done, Team India! We are proud of you!"
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the team, "Our players put up a stellar performance throughout the T20 World Cup with unmatched team spirit and sportsmanship. The nation swells with pride at their historic achievement."

"What an incredible victory and achievement by Indian cricket team!" posted Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on X. "The Indian team has scripted history by defeating South Africa at #T20WolrdCupFinal! The entire nation is elated by India winning the T20 Cricket World Cup! Congratulations to the Indian cricket team for spectacular display of cricketing skills, grit and perseverance. This victory today will motivate so many upcoming cricketers and sportspersons. We are proud of the Indian team," his post read further.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also praised the Indian team. "Surya, what a brilliant catch! Rohit, this win is a testament to your leadership. Rahul, I know team India will miss your guidance," his post said, adding, "The spectacular Men in Blue have made our country proud".

India Clinches T20 World Cup 2024
Virat Kohli's first half-century of this T20 World Cup anchored India to a score of 176-7 in the final held in Barbados. Kohli scored 76 runs, with Axar Patel contributing a valuable 47. Keshav Maharaj was South Africa's standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs.
In a nail-biting match, South Africa played strong till the end. India's rival team was 81 for three after 10 overs in their chase of 177. Jasprit Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough and also saved the team when the situation escalated after the 10th over.
