New Delhi: Parupalli Kashyap crashes out of Taipei Open after losing his quarter final match of Men’s Singles event to Soong Joo Ven of Malaysia. It comes as a big shock as the World Number 3 hadn’t dropped any set till now in the tournament and was looking one of the favourites to win this time around.
Kashyap fell behind after going a set down but showed a spirited performance to bounce back and win the second set, and took the match to third and final set. A scintillating match, with loads of efforts from both the players put on a spectacle for viewers around the world but it was a disappointing outing for the Indian as with his exit, the Indian hopes in Men’s Singles event too, take an exit.
Soong Joo Ven’s defeat of Kashyap 21-12, 12-21, 21-17 helped him progress to the semi-finals and will face World Number 1, Tien Chen Chou as Chi Ting Chen retired hurt after losing the first set to the Chinese Taipei player.
Elsewhere, the Mixed Doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto too, have crashed out of the Taipei Open after losing their match to Malaysian pair of Hoo Pang Ron and Toh Ee Wei in straight sets 19-21, 12-21 in their quarter final match of the Mixed Doubles Event.
The third and last Indian hope in the tournament was in the Women’s Doubles event where Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishta lost to the Hong Kong’s pair of NG Tsz Yau and Tsang Hiu Yan 16-21, 22-20, 18-21. The Indian pair put on a spirited performance but just fell short of glory.
The defeats for India in all the three events have officially ruled them out of contention for any title in this year’s Taipei Open and their journey comes to an end.
