Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by 25 runs in the Pakistan Super League 'Eliminator 2' (PSL 2020) encounter played at Karachi on Sunday night (Nov 15) and booked a place in the finals of the marquee T20 league.

Lahore Qalandar will now lock horns with Karachi Kings in the high octane grand finale of the PSL 2020 as the latter had already secured their place in the title clash with a thrilling Super Over win over Multan Sultans earlier on Saturday (Nov 14).

Qalandars clinical win against Sultans in the Eliminator 2  came on the back of all-round heroics from their South African import David Wiese, who was the hero with both the willow and white cherry.

Put into bat first by Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars posted a challenging 182 run target riding high on a whirlwind cameo by Wiese, who top scored with blistering 21-ball 48 not out (5x4s, 3x6s). Apart from Wiese, opener Fakhar Zaman (46) and Tamim Iqbal (30) made meaningful contributions.

After spearheading his team's efforts with the willow, Wiese starred with the white cherry too as he scalped 3 wickets in his 4-over spell (4-27) to help his team bowl out Multan-franchise for 157 in 19.1 overs and seal the knockout contest.

Apart from Multan Sultans' opener Adam Lyth, who scored a breezy fifty up the order, none of the other batsmen could really get going in their pursuit to chase down 182, as the Qalandar bowlers kept making inroads into their batting by picking up wickets at regular intervals.

It was a good all-round effort by the Lahore Qalandars bowling unit as Wiese and Haris Rauf took three wickets each, while Dilbar Hussain and Shaheen Afridi chipped in with two wickets. David Wiese was declared the Man of the Match award for his stellar all-round performance.

The 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League had commenced on February 20 and 30 matches of the T20 league were played until March 15, when the marquee Pakistani white-ball franchise tournament had to be stopped due to Covid-19 pandemic. The playoffs got underway on Saturday.
