The women claimed that Babar had promised to marry her in 2010 but did not live up to his commitment after he rose in stature to become a top cricketer for Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference in Pakistan on Saturday, the women said that Babar Azam proposed marriage to her as early as 2010 and the duo had eloped for a court wedding next year. However, she said Babar changed his mind.
The woman added that she had supported the star Pakistani cricketer financially when the Pakistan skipper was finding his ground in competitive cricket. She also said Babar physically abused her and threatened her before she went to the police.
Pakistan journalist Saj Sadiq shared a clip of the woman making the allegations. "He promised to marry me, he got me pregnant, he beat me up, he threatened me and he used me," the woman was quoted as saying. Pakistan Cricket Board of the player is yet to respond to the allegations leveled by the woman.
Babar Azam is currently in New Zealand and serving a 14-day quarantine period ahead of his team's 3-match T20 series against the Black Caps against the hosts. Babar was appointed as Pakistan national team's captain for Tests earlier this month as he took over from the experienced campaigner Azhar Ali. He is now the skipper for Pakistan across all three formats.
