New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has won her second women's singles title at Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament. Former world champion Sindhu clinched the title by defeating compatriot Malvika Bansod 21-13, 21-16 in the final on Sunday at the Babu Banarasi Indoor Stadium.
The star Indian shuttler easily pocketed the first game and then carried on the momentum to win the second game as well, wrapping up the game in straight sets quite comprehensively.
Earlier on Saturday, PV Sindhu had entered the women's singles final of the Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament after her opponent, fifth-seeded Russian rival Evgenia Kosetskaya, retired hurt in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Top seed Sindhu easily won the first game 21-11 before Kosetskaya decided to withdraw from the semi-final match.
Sindhu today won her second Syed Modi title. Some years back in 2017, she had won the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.
Earlier, Indian pair of Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto defeated compatriots T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada in straight games to clinch the mixed doubles title.
The men's singles title match between Arnaud Merkle and Lukas Clairebout was declared a 'no match' after one of the finalists tested positive for COVID-19.
"BWF can confirm one of the finalists tested positive for COVID-19 this morning," an official statement read, ANI reported.
