Background
Paris Paralympics 2024, Day 1 Live Updates: Not long after the conclusion of the Paris Olympics 2024, the French Capital is all set to host the Paralympic Games with a grand opening ceremony formally having declared the Paralympics open. As far as the Indian contingent is concerned, they had their best-ever show in the Paralympics in the Tokyo edition of the event, winning more than half of their overall medal tally of 31 in the Japanese capital alone.
India's star archer Sheetal Devi will be among the first athletes to get India's campaign up and running with shooting, shuttler and taekwondo events also lined up on the day. So there will be a lot of action on the opening day of the Paris Paralympics 2024.
There is no doubt that India would be hoping to get their best-ever Paralympics tally, winning 19 of their medals in Tokyo. Can they get past the 20-mark then this time around? With some talented athletes as well as proven performers like Sumit Antil, Sheetal Devi, Bhagyashree Jadhav set to be in action India would like to believe that they can indeed get past that mark with ease and somewhat make up for the Paris Olympics 2024 which largely remained a story of what could have beens for- despite India finishing with 6 medals.
Overall, more than 4,000 athletes with physical, visual as well as intellectual impairments will be competing across 22 sports disciplines from Thursday until September 8. As per the information available, over 2 million tickets have been sold for the Paralympic events already and with what we have seen so far, this Paralympics can shatter several records with ease, much like it did by hosting an opening ceremony outside the confines of a stadium for the first time, much like how it did in the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony.
India are fielding their largest-ever contingent at the Paris Paralympics and there is every reason to believe they can script history when they take the field in the summit games.
