Paralympics 2024 Live Day 5 Highlights: India won eight medals in total on the fifth day of the Paralympics with Sumit Antil and Nithesh Kumar bagging gold medals for the country.
That was a superb day for India as the country's contingent won eight medals in total with two golds. Javelin thrower Sumit Antil highlighted the day as he broke his own record twice in what was a jaw-dropping performance to win a gold. Shuttler Nitesh Kumar had also won a gold earlier in the day. To finish the day off on a high, it was shuttler Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan who claimed a bronze to take India's medal tall to 15.
A lot of promising action also awaits on day 6 as India will look to replicate day 5’s strong performance with key medal opportunities in para-shooting, para-archery and para-athletics. Sumit Antil secures gold in Men's Javelin Throw F64 at the 2024 Paralympics, setting a new record in the process.
Defending champion Sumit Antil remains in the lead with his best throw of 70.59 meters after the fifth round. In his penultimate attempt, he recorded a throw of 69.04 meters, significantly outperforming the second and third-placed athletes. Notably, his fourth attempt was a foul.
Sumit Antil recorded a 66.66-meter throw with his third attempt. Remarkably, all three of Antil's throws so far would have been sufficient for him to win gold as per the readings of all the throws in the competition at the moment.
Sukant Kadam put up a valiant effort but narrowly missed out on a Paralympic medal. He lost the Men's Singles SL4 bronze medal match 21-17, 21-18 to Indonesia's Fredy Setiawan.
India's Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi secured the bronze medal with a nail-biting 156-155 victory over Italy's Matteo Bonacina and Eleonora Sarti in the Mixed Team Compound Open third-place playoff.

Paralympics 2024 Live Day 5 Highlights: It's Another Day in the Paralympic Games where medals are assured for India. The only wait through the course of the day is to find out the colour of the medal and whether or not the Indian contingent can assure or add more medals to their tally.
The Indian contingent has 2 gold medal matches scheduled in the day with Nitesh Kumar and Suhas Yathiraj both in with a chance to bring a gold medal for India in badminton. There are Indians in action in the bronze medal match too in badminton with Sivarajan Solaimalai/Nithya Sumathy Sivan set to represent the country in the men's doubles category while Sukant Kadam playing for the bronze.
