It was on this day, July 29, 44 years ago, back in 1980 that India clinched the last of its hockey gold. The Indian men's hockey team beat Spain 4-3 in the final to win their eighth gold in the history of the Summer Games. They haven't been able to add further to their tally. They will take on Argentina in their Pool B match against Argentina.
Even though Ramita Jindal may have missed out on a medal opportunity, there are two medals still possible for India today. Arjun Babuta will be in with a medal chance and so will be the men's archer team who will be in the quarterfinal up front and their journey through to medal will be decided post that.

Ex-India cricket player and the 2024 T20 World Cup winning coach reacted to Manu Bhaker's bronze medal victory in the Women's 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday.
"Manu's story is incredible after the disappointment of Tokyo Olympics, to come here and be able to get over that and compete and win a bronze is a phenomenal achievement. "We know how hard it is for a sportsperson and what they go through and so much depends on just these few days, " Dravid said during a panel discussion at India House in Paris according to PTI.
"In lot of their lives, I can imagine the pressure that involves in all these sports because this is the pinnacle of their sports. It doesn't get bigger than this and for her to be able to do that, truly a great day for Indian sports. What an inspiring story for so many back home," Dravid added.
Paris Olympics organisers have cancelled the triathlon swimming training session for the second consecutive day on Monday due to heavy rain impacting water quality in the Seine, just 24 hours before the men’s race.
