Paris Olympics 2024, Day 14 Highlights: Aman Sehrawat's Bronze Takes India's Medal Tally To 6
Paris Olympics 2024, Day 14 HIGHLIGHTS: It was a second successive day in which India made an addition to their medals tally with wrestler Aman Sehrawat's bronze taking India's tally to 6 medals.
Let's call it a day shall we? The big news as we end Olympics Day 14 from here is that hearing is over in the Vinesh Phogat case and an interim order is expected anytime soon by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) with a detailed order to come later. As we await that order, let's acknowledge that it was a medal day in the Olympics for India and let's celebrate it as we don't get too many of those. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat bagged the bronze to take India's overall medal tally to 6. There is hope though that Phogat could still be awarded a joint-silver, there is hope (against hope) that India's golfers could do something special or Reetika Hooda could add bag another medal in wrestling. And with that hope we wrap up another day of coverage of Paris Olympics 2024. Thank you so much for joining us. Good night and take care, from all of us at ABP Live Sports.
What a performance from the 21-year-old who continues the trend of a wrestling medal in every addition of the Olympic Games since the 2008 Games. Not a bad day as we approach the sign off from the Olympics for India with three medals coming in from the last two days.

As the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) considers whether Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat should be awarded a silver medal from the Paris Olympics, India’s legendary former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has criticised the rules that led to Phogat's disqualification, calling them illogical and contrary to the spirit of sports.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sachin expressed, “Time for an Umpire’s Call! Every sport has rules and those rules need to be seen in context, maybe even revisited at times. Vinesh Phogat qualified fair and square for the finals. Her disqualification by weight, was before the finals, and hence, for her to be robbed of a deserving silver medal defies logic and sporting sense. It would have been understandable if an athlete were to have been disqualified for ethical breaches such as the usage of performance enhancing drugs. In that case, to not be awarded any medal and be placed last would be justifiable. However, Vinesh beat her opponents fairly to reach the top two. She definitely deserves a silver medal. While we all wait for a verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, 1et us hope and pray that Vinesh gets the recognition she deserves.”

“An application was filed at the CAS Ad hoc Division at 16:45 CEST on 7 August 2024 by Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat (the Applicant) in relation to the decision taken by United World Wrestling (UWW) to replace her, because of her failed second weigh-in, before the gold medal match of the Women’s Freestyle 50kg competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 that was due to commence at 18:15 CEST the same day (the Challenged Decision),” the CAS statement reads.
"The Applicant initially sought a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division annulling the Challenged Decision and ordering another weigh-in before the final match as well as a declaration that she be declared eligible and qualified to participate in the final.
“However, she did not request urgent interim measures. The CAS Ad hoc Division procedure is fast, but it was not possible for a decision on the merits to be issued within an hour, bearing in mind that the Respondent UWW would have had to be heard first. The procedure is, however, ongoing and the Applicant has confirmed that she seeks the annulment of the Challenged Decision and that she requests to be awarded a (shared) silver medal.”
“The matter has been referred to the Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC (AUS), sitting as a Sole Arbitrator, who will hold a hearing with the parties today. The Sole Arbitrator’s decision is expected to be issued before the end of the Olympic Games,” the statement concluded.
The CAS has announced that a decision on Vinesh Phogat's appeal will be made before the conclusion of the Paris Olympics.

Background
Paris Olympics 2024, Day 14 LIVE Updates: Welcome to ABP Live’s live coverage of India's action on Day 14 of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. India had a productive Day 13, as a Bronze medal from India Men's Hockey Team, followed by Neeraj Chopra's Silver medal in Men's Javelin Throw helped India reach the total of 5 Olympic medal at this year's Games.
However, there were completely contrasting emotions in both the medal wins, as Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan shattered India's dreams of a Gold medal at Paris Olympics 2024 by winning the event of Men's Javelin Throw Final. The Pakistani athlete was completely dominant and a league apart from rest of the competitors, as he broke the all-time Olympic record for the farthest throw in Men's Javelin Throw event by registering a distance 92.97m.
Such was his brilliance, that the mark became more and more elusive for the 11 other athletes and hence, Pakistan brought an end to it's 40-year drought of an Olympic Gold medal.
A moment of history was witnessed in Men's Hockey, as India registered back-to-back Olympic medal wins in the event for the first time in 52 years. Co-incidentally, it came against Spain, a side they defeated back in 1980 Moscow Games to win the Gold medal in the final.
Focusing on Day 14, Aman Sehrawat can increase the medal tally of India, as the wrestler is set to contest in the Men's 57kg Freestyle Bronze medal match against Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz.
