Indian athletes will return home today after a stellar performance at the Tokyo Olympics. All the medal winners for the country will be felicitated at an event held at Hotel Ashoka in Delhi this evening. According to the report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also interact with the players through video conferencing during the event. India won a total of seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics, including one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.


Earlier the event was supposed to be held at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, but it has been rescheduled due to rain in the national capital. 


Sports Authority of India (SAI) has organized the event at Ashoka Hotel to honour the athletes who won medals at the Tokyo Olympics. The program will begin at 6.30 pm. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will be accompanied by several former Olympic athletes and Government of India officials. 






Indian athletes returning from Tokyo today 


Gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra, men's and women's hockey team, Bajrang Punia and athletes from track and field events are returning home from Tokyo today. They will reach Delhi Airport at 5.15 pm today. The women's hockey team will go to Ashoka Hotel directly from the airport while Neeraj Chopra, the men's hockey team and Bajrang Punia will reach Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. 


Other Indian athletes who have won Olympic medals have already returned home. Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Lovlina Borgohain will also attend the event today. According to the information, the felicitation program may begin at 6.30 pm. After the felicitation ceremony, all the athletes will leave Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium for Ashoka Hotel.  


India wins 7 medals in Tokyo


India has won a total of 7 medals at the Tokyo Olympics, its best performance at the biggest sporting event so far. For India, Neeraj Chopra won gold in javelin throw, Mirabai Chanu won silver in weightlifting, Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver in wrestling, PV Sindhu won bronze in badminton, Lovlina Borgohain won bronze in boxing, Bajrang Punia won bronze in wrestling. Also, the men's hockey team won the bronze medal.
