Tokyo Olympics: Indian Contingent Returns! The most successful Indian contingent has finally returned after winning 7 medals (1 gold, 4 bronze and 2 silver) at Tokyo Olympics 2020. The medal winners will be facilitated by the Sports Authority of India in the virtual presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Indian Contingent's Flight Preponed

Indian contingent's flight has been preponed and now, the Indian athletes will be landing in Delhi at 4:20 pm, IST. 


Earlier, the flight was supposed to land at 5:15 pm. 

PV Sindhu & Mirabai Chanu To Remain Absent

Two female athletes, Mirabai Chanu and PV Sindhu will not be present at the ceremony of the medal winners as both of these ladies have already been felicitated.

Background

Indian athletes will return home to Delhi on Monday after a stellar performance at the Tokyo Olympics. All the medal winners for the country will be felicitated at an event held at Hotel Ashoka in Delhi this evening. This event was earlier scheduled to take place at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Delhi but was moved to The Ashoka due to the rainy weather in New Delhi on Monday. 


Notably, the Silver medal winner, Mirabai Chanu, and the Bronze winner, PV Sindhu, will be skipping the felicitation ceremony. The duo has been felicitated by the government of India before and hence they will not be attending today's ceremony at Hotel Ashoka.


Neeraj Chopra, Ravi Dahiya, Lovina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia and the Men's Hockey team will be facilitated by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for winning medals at Tokyo 2020. India's performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was the best performance of the nation ever at the Games. 


Neeraj Chopra's gold medal in Javelin Throw lifted India's spirits and also the overall rank. India finished 47th at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, which is the best position of the contingent. 


Sports Authority of India (SAI) has organized the event at Ashoka Hotel to honour the athletes who won medals at the Tokyo Olympics. The program will begin at 6.30 pm. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will be accompanied by several former Olympic athletes and Government of India officials. 


The athletes will reach Delhi Airport at 5.15 pm today and from there, they will head for the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi.
