Mirabai Chanu has failed to win a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. While India were struck at 3 medals, all of eyes were on Chanu to add to India's medals tally but she failed to achieve the same under pressure. This would have been the the second successive Olympic Games in which Chanu would won the medal after clinching the silver medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a total lift of 202 kg.


In the Paris Olympics 2024, Chanu successfully lifted 85 kg in her first attempt in the snatch round. She might have failed in her second attempt at 88 kg but came back to successfully lift 88 kgs in her third attempt to finish the snatch round on a bronze medal position. In the clean and jerk, Chanu failed 111 kg in her first attempt before making a successful lift of the same weight in her second attempt.

A successful final attempt of 114 kgs would have taken her to the second position but that was not to be as she failed to lift the 114 kg attempt and finished fourth, just outside the medal tally.


Hou Zhihui Sets New Olympic Record To Clinch Gold


Meanwhile, China's Hou Zhihui set a new Olympic record to clinch the gold in the event in which Mirabai Chanu was competing. While she had a best of 89 kgs in the snatch round, she dared to go for the 117 kg mark in the clean and jerk round in the final attempt after failing the same in the second attempt to go 1 kg clear of Romania's Cambei Mihaela Valentina who took the silver medal at 205 kgs (93+112). Thailand's Khambao Surodchana completed the set of podium finishes with a total of 200 kgs (88+112).
