Deepthi Jeevanji, the Indian para sprinter, made history at the Paris Paralympics 2024 as she won a bronze medal in the Women’s 400m T20 final at the Stade de France on September 3 (Tuesday). This is India’s only third-ever Tack and Field medal in the Paralympics history. Jeevanji, the 2024 World Champion, clocked the time of 55.82s.
Reigning world champion Jeevanji was on the verge of winning silver before Turkey’s Aysel Onder, who broke Deepthi’s world record during the heats, overtook her with a time of 55.23 seconds. Ukraine’s Yuliia Shuliar claimed the gold, finishing in 55.16 seconds.

Jeevanji Only The 2nd Indian To Win Medal In Track & Field For India At Paralympics
Jeevanji is now only the second Indian athlete, after Preethi Pal, who has won a medal for India in a track and field event at the Paralympic Games. Notably, Preethi had won bronze in both the women’s 100m T35 and 200m T35, making her the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win multiple Paralympic medals.
Jeevanji came to the Paris Paralympics 2024 on the back of a gold medal win at the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe. She set a world record there by clocking 55.07 seconds to win the race. Prior to that, she also won a gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, where she finished with the timing of 56.69 seconds.
