In an alleged theft committed on a suburban train in France, a bag containing a computer was reported stolen from a Paris engineer. The bag also had two memory sticks containing security plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics, news agency Reuters reported, citing two informed sources with "direct knowledge of the matter".
The sensitivity of the stolen data remains unclear, according to the sources who wished to stay anonymous due to restrictions on discussing the incident.
Efforts to get comments from the police were unsuccessful, and officials from Paris 2024 have opted not to respond, the report said.
The upcoming Paris Olympics, scheduled for July 26 to August 11, will see significant security measures, with an anticipated 30,000 police officers deployed daily and around 3,00,000 spectators expected at the opening ceremony to be held along the Seine river, according to the Reuters report.
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to be hosted in Paris, France. With a total of 35 venues, fourteen of them will serve as hosts for 24 Olympic sports, all situated within 10 kilometres of the Olympic Village. The Games will unfold in various locations around Paris, including les Yvelines, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-et-Marne, and Seine-Saint-Denis.
Beyond Paris, the reach of the Paris 2024 Games will extend to several other regions of France. The football tournament, for instance, is set to be played in six additional cities—Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille. Sailing events will take place in Marseille, while surfing competitions will be held at the Teahupo’o site in Tahiti.
Regarding ticket sales, nearly 10 million tickets are slated for sale for the 2024 Olympics and over 3 million for the Paralympics, as per the Paris 2024 official website. Various attendance options for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be offered, all accessible through a single website. In a historic move, ticket sales will be exclusively online, marking the first time in the Games' history that sales will be accessible worldwide through the internet.
