India's javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who had won the Gold Medal in men's javelin throw final to script history at the recently-concluded Tokyo Olympics 2020, had to leave the welcome ceremony in Haryana's Panipat midway due to high fever and was taken to the hospital.
Reportedly, the ceremony was also cut short due to heatwave. Few days back, the star athlete was down with a sore throat and fever when he had joined the Indian contingent for Independence Day celebrations, but had tested negative for Coronavirus. As per sources, Neeraj has been advised to rest and now his condition is stable.
23-year-old Neeraj Chopra scripted history in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The star javelin thrower threw the javelin to a distance of 87.58m to become the first from India to win a gold medal in track and field in the Olympics history.
"Most keen followers of the sport had heard of Neeraj Chopra before the Olympic Games. But after winning the javelin in Tokyo, and in the process becoming India's first athletics gold medallist in Olympic history, Chopra's profile sky-rocketed," the World Athletics website read.
"Still processing this feeling," Neeraj recently posted. "To all of India and beyond, thank you so much for your support and blessings that have helped me reach this stage. This moment will live with me forever."
In an interview, Neeraj had revealed that he could not sleep well due to the difference in the time zone for the first two days after reaching Tokyo. But after winning the Gold medal, he was very happy and slept comfortably by placing his medal beside his pillow.
Neeraj is the second athlete after Abhinav Bindra to win gold for the country in individual events.
