No proposal of legalising online betting has been made to me, clarifies Vijay Goel

New Delhi [India], July 16 (ANI): With reports of the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) recommending a central legalisation to allow online and regulated betting in Cricket doing rounds, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Sunday clarified that he has not yet come across any such proposal.

"No such proposal has been made to me. I am against betting. I am one of those who banned gambling. But the final decision rests with the Government of India," Goel said.

Earlier, the AIGF reportedly sought a central legalisation to allow online betting and regulated betting in Cricket.

The AIGF, in its white paper submitted to the Law Commission of India (LCI), stated the Centre could earn thousands of crores in tax and revenues every year if it legalises betting.

Betting on sports is banned in India, but is reportedly carried out illegally. (ANI)
