Lionel Messi, after 16 years of trying, finally added that 'one trophy' missing from his illustrious cabinet as La Albiceleste secured a historic win over defending champions France in a dramatic FIFA World Cup 2022 final at the Lusail Stadium on December 18.
Argentina had doubled their lead in the first-half after which the mega event saw a dramatic twist in the 81st minute. Kylian Mbappe's brace within 97 seconds pulled France back into the match. Messi scored Argentina's 3rd goal as La Albiceleste took the lead in 109th minute but Mbappe struck again to bring France back level to 3-3. In the penalties, Argentina's goalkeeper Martinez helped his side secure a 4-3 win.
