According to various reports, McGregor has been accused of brutally assaulting a woman at the NBA Finals Game 4 between Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets that took place at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Friday, June 9. The 34-year-old athlete was also accused of kissing the woman before forcing her into sexual acts in the loo during the NBA final. McGregor's team however denied the charges of sexually assaulting a woman during the NBA final event in Miami.
McGregor’s lawyer Barbara Llanes issued a statement that said, "The allegations are false. Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated”.
The Miami police department confirmed that its special cell was investigating a case that was filed on Sunday.
"This is an open investigation so no additional information can be released at this time," a Miami Police Department statement to AFP said.
Miami Heart and NBA also admitted their awareness of the reports and are currently investigating.
"We are aware of the allegations and are conducting a full investigation," the Heat said in a statement.
"Pending the outcome of the investigation, we will withhold further comment."
During the game on Friday, Conor’s behavior was questioned following an incident during a timeout. The Miami Heat mascot got punched by the fighter who was there on the court for a promotional purpose. As a result, the person who appeared as the mascot was taken to a hospital and was later released after getting medication.
However, this is not the first time that Conor McGregor has been charged with sexual assault as a case was filed against him back in 2020 by a woman who accused him of raping her in 2018.
McGregor is one of the most lethal fighters in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts circuit. Earlier, he held the featherweight and lightweight titles and has taken part in various high-profile events. One of his most renowned fights was against Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas back in 2017 which generated over $600 million in total revenue and earned McGregor around $100 million.
