After a scintillating opening ceremony of the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 on Tuesday, the main event begins on Wednesday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The mega event will witness Belgium and Canada locking horns in the tournament opener followed by hosts India taking the field against South Africa.

The 4th ranked Indian side seems much stronger and constituted in front of the 15th ranked Proteas who are not so favourites in the tournament. Under the leadership of skipper Manpreet Singh and coach Harendra Singh, India will look to begin their Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 journey on a winning note so as to boost their chances to progress further in the tournament.

In the previous 10 editions since their maiden triumph in 1975, India’s best performance has been the fifth-place finish at the 1982 edition. However, the recent performances have raised hopes of the hosts ending their 43-year long wait for a world title.
