New Delhi: Australia emerged as the favourites to win the AUS vs ENG 3rd Test and the five-match Ashes 2021-22 series as well at the end of Day 1's play in the Melbourne Test. After sending the entire English team back to pavilion for a paltry 185 in  their first innings, Pat  Cummins-led Australia had scored 61/1 at Stumps.

Following Aussie opener David Warner’s dismissal, Marcus Harris and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten at the crease.

Meanwhile, a fiery short-pitched bouncer from English all-rounder Ben Stokes left Harris' finger bloodied. The incident took place in the first ball of the last over of the day 1. However, despite getting the cut, Harris decided to continue to bat and even hit a boundary of the last ball of opening day's play.
