Mumbai (Maharashtra):  In the latest security rejig by the newly-formed Maharashtra government, the X-category security cover of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was withdrawn. This means he will no longer have a round-the-clock police constable with him but will have an escort.

Aaditya Thackeray, Shiv Sena MLA and son of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's security cover has been enhanced from Y+ to Z by the threat perception committee that meets once in a quarter to take an assessment.

As per reports, senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse, who enjoyed ‘Y’ security along with an escort, won’t from now on have the escort. Former UP governor Ram Naik’s ‘Z+’ cover has also been downgraded to ‘X’,

Noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam’s ‘Z+’ cover has been reduced to Y but will have an escort. Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare’s cover has been increased from ‘Y+’ to ‘Z’ in view of the threat perception.

Reports say the threat perception committee had reduced or enhanced security cover of 29 of 97 people while decategorising it for 26 people.

Last month the Congress party created uproar in the Parliament after Modi government withdrew the Special Protection Group cover of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, with officials claiming there was no “direct threat to the Gandhis” and accusing them of repeatedly violating the security protocol anyway.
