LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs NEW ZEALAND | 2ND ODI
FEROZESHAH KOTLA, DELHI
FULL SCORECARD
Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav's 49-run stand then gave India hope but once again the hosts failed to close the game out and lost the game by 6 runs. India will rue the fact they it was their game to lose and they had far too many soft dismissals. They will want to address that issue.
Chasing 243, India were rocked early when they were 73 for 4 with two of their best ODI players in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the hut. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav stitched a 66-run stand to get India back in the game. Once Kedar fell though, India were always losing momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
It was Kane Williamson's crafty century in the first innings that helped them post a fighting total on board. The middle order collapsed for them but the bowler stepped up and put in a superb effort to keep their team alive in the series. Trent Boult finished with figures of 2/25. He along with Tim Southee who took 3/52 were the destroyers-in-chief.
What a game! Once again we see how low scoring games can be thrilling ones! New Zealand have put in a fine, fine performance here to register their first win on the tour. They have bowled superbly as a team and they will be buoyed with their performance today. The ODI series is tied 1-1 with three games to go.
INDIA INNINGS
NEW ZEALAND WIN THIS MATCH BY 6 RUNS AND LEVEL THE SERIES 1-1.
49.3 overs: WICKET! BOWLED 'EM! AND THE KIWIS HAVE DONE IT! Bumrah had dismissed Southee in similar fashion earlier and now, Tim has returned the favour. He comes running in and fires in a perfect yorker on middle and off. Bumrah tries his absolute best to dig it out but it's just too good for him. The bails are knocked over and India have been bowled out here. Jasprit Bumrah b Southee 0 (1b 0x4 0x6).

48.5 overs: WICKET! THAT'S A BIG WICKET FOR NZ! And that too at such a crucial point. Is this where the Kiwis can clinch it? The entire stadium is silenced. Boult bangs it in short and on middle and off, Pandya makes room and slaps it over the cover region. He doesn't get a hold ot it though and it's high in the air. Santner settles himself under it and takes a really good catch. 11 still needed off 7 balls. Hardik Pandya c Santner b Boult 36 (32b 3x4 0x6).

40.5 overs: WICKET! Martin Guptill to Amit Mishra, OUT! Mishra throws it away! Guptill's turning out to be more threatening all New Zealand bowlers combined! Floated outside off, Mishra wants to hit it out of Delhi. He only ends up skieing it towards short third man. Bracewell (the substitute) takes the catch. A bit of amateur batting from India.
A Mishra c sub (DAJ Bracewell) b Guptill 1 (3b 0x4 0x6)
40.1 overs: WICKET! Martin Guptill to Axar Patel. The move works! A full toss on middle, Axar looks to go big but fails to connect cleanly and finds Santner at long on. That is a huge wicket. Guptill is delighted and why not. Axar Patel c Santner b Guptill 17 (22b 0x4 1x6).

Southee sticks out his right hand and the ball sticks in his hand. That was superbly done and the crowd is silenced. MS Dhoni c & b Southee 39 (65b 3x4 0x6).
38.3 overs: SIX! Mitchell Santner to Axar Patel. That was coming! Floated on off, Axar gets under it and swings it up and over mid-wicket for a maximum. That shot had to come, first boundary after 8 overs.

31.1 overs: WICKET! Matt Henry to Kedar Jadhav. MATT HENRY WITH THE BREAKTHROUGH! He was brought back on for this very purpose and he has delivered for his side. He fires it full and outside off, takes the pace off this one as Kedar Jadhav is into the shot too early. He crouches low to run it down to third man but ends up lobbing it behind to Ronchi who takes a good catch diving to his right. Partnership of 66 has come to an end. Kedar Jadhav c Ronchi b Henry 41 (37b 2x4 2x6).

29.4 overs: FOUR! Matt Henry to MS Dhoni. THAT'S DHONI AT HIS BEST! Banged in short once more, Dhoni gets on top of the bounce and pulls it away through backward square leg for a boundary. He didn't actually hit that too hard. It was all about the timing.
27.6 overs: FOUR! Mitchell Santner to Kedar Jadhav. Poor from Mitchell. It's short, flat and too straight. Jadhav gets low to this one and paddle-pulls it past short fine leg to pick up a boundary.
27.2 overs: SIX! Mitchell Santner to Kedar Jadhav. THAT'S BIG! Santner tosses it up on the stumps, Jadhav is on to this in a flash. Plays with the turn, goes inside out and smokes it high and handsome over the cover boundary for half a dozen. That's done beautifully.
25.5 overs: FOUR! Mitchell Santner to MS Dhoni, FOUR! THAT'S CUT AWAY! Short and wide outside off, Dhoni stays back and cuts it hard through point to send it all the way. Beats the diving fielder out in the deep, giving him no chance.
25.2 overs: SIX! Mitchell Santner to Kedar Jadhav, SIX! Oh, Kedar, that's big!! Short and flat around off, Kedar Jadhav waits for it and deposits it high and mighty over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie. He rocked back quickly and gave it the full swing of the bat. Hit it with real power.
23.1 overs: FOUR! Anton Devcich to Kedar Jadhav. In the gap! Flatter around off, Kedar kneels down and sweeps it past short fine leg for a boundary. That was neatly done.
22.1 overs: FOUR! Matt Henry to MS Dhoni, FOUR! Short on middle and leg, Dhoni picks it and pulls it hard through square leg for a boundary.
Over 20: India 74/4 (169 runs required from 30 overs)

Southee 4-0-19-1
19.2 overs: WICKET! Anton Devcich to Manish Pandey. RUN OUT! Trouble for India! Slants this one middle and leg, Pandey clips it towards square leg. The throw comes in from the deep as Pandey dives to get into the crease. The third umpire is referred. Replays show that the throw from Santner was on stumps and Pandey has to depart. That's another chance wasted by Pandey to impress on the international level. India in trouble at 73/4!
18.4 overs: WICKET! Tim Southee to Ajinkya Rahane. Clean catch? That could be controversial. Shorter in length on middle, Rahane looks to pull it through but does not keep it down. The ball flies down to deep backward square leg. Corey Anderson comes in from the deep dives and takes the catch but gets up and says that he is not sure if it carried to the fielder. Third umpire is referred and the soft signal is out. Replays shows that the ball seems to have bounced into the hands of Anderson. The third umpire Shamshuddin takes his own sweet time to conclude that he does not have enough evidence to give it not out. Big wicket for New Zealand!
16.2 overs: FOUR! Tim Southee to Ajinkya Rahane.! INTENT FROM RAHANE! Fuller outside off, Rahane takes a step down and whips it, like a tennis forehand shot down the ground over the head of the bowler for a boundary. Not a shot that you would see from Rahane but well executed.
14.4 overs: SIX! Anton Devcich to Manish Pandey. THAT'S PUT AWAY WITH DISDAIN! Short and flat on off, Manish Pandey picks up the length early. He rocks back and pulls it hard over the mid-wicket boundary for a flat maximum.
11.4 overs: WICKET! Mitchell Santner to Virat Kohli. A wicket against the run of play. And that too in such an unexpected manner. It's sliding down leg, Kohli still goes after it and looks to flick it away. Ends up getting an edge as Ronchi takes a good catch by shuffling across. Loud appeal for a caught behind. The umpire doesn't move initially but Kohli starts walking. And seeing this, the umpire raises his finger. That's a big wicket for Santner and the Kiwis. They've got the big fish.
9.6 overs: FOUR! Matt Henry to Virat Kohli. SHOT! Good length delivery outside off, Kohli opens the face of the bat and crunches it through the gap in the covers. Lovely timing on that as nobody moved to even try and chase it.
8.5 overs: FOUR! Tim Southee to Ajinkya Rahane. DEFT FROM RAHANE! Waits and waits for this slowish length ball outside off, opens the face of the bat and runs it across the third man fence for a boundary. Lovely batting.
7.1 overs: WICKET! BOULT STRIKES! He's got his just rewards here. Two consecutive maidens and a wicket off the first ball here. He comes steaming in and bowls a back of a length delivery outside off, Rohit Sharma looks to punch this away off his back foot but ends up getting an edge. Ronchi behind the stumps takes a regulation catch and that's the end of the Indian Hitman. But wait, there's something wrong here. As Ronchi takes the catch, Rahane immediately runs to Sharma. And it seems like he has dislocated his shoulders. In fact, the moment he played that shot he quickly caught his left shoulder. Has he dislocated it? Not sure, but it seems like he has. He's walking back now, hope he's alright. Rohit Sharma c Ronchi b Boult 15 (27b 1x4 1x6).
Over 5: India 18/0 (225 runs required from 45 overs)
Rohit 12 (20b 1x4 1x6)

Henry 3-0-14-0
Boult 2-1-4-0
4.6 overs: FOUR! Matt Henry to Rohit Sharma. Good timing! A touch short outside off, Rohit stands tall and punches it wide of covers. The ball races away to the fence. That was beautifully timed!
4.3 overs: SIX! Matt Henry to Rohit Sharma. SWEET! Fuller in length outside off, Rohit stands his crease and just lofts it down the ground over the head of the bowler for a maximum. Superb shot, Rohit! That has woken up the crowd too.
1.4 overs: FOUR! Trent Boult to Ajinkya Rahane. SWEET! Fuller in length on middle, Rahane gets forward and just presents the full face of the bat to time it down the ground for a boundary. Corey gives chase from mid on but cannot stop the ball.
Welcome back for the chase! The players are out in the middle. India don't have a huge score but will want to begin it well and ensure there not many hiccups. The two openers are out in the middle for India, in Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma. New Zealand begin with Matt Henry.
So, India have a target of 243 set in front of them. It won't be easy by any means as the pitch will be a tricky one to play on. If the Kiwi bowlers can be patient and adapt to the conditions, we could be in for an entertaining run chase. Join us in a short while for that.
The Black Caps will be very disappointed with the fact that they couldn't finish well. After losing Martin Guptill early, Williamson and Latham took the reins and knocked the ball around very well. They stitched a 120-run stand at a brisk rate with the skipper scoring a ton. But after that partnership was broken, nobody from the middle order really capitalized on the platform set for them.
Once the Indian bowlers broke the Latham-Williamson partnership, they clawed their way back from there and did extremely well to restrict New Zealand under 250. Amit Mishra picked up 3 wickets but Bumrah really impressed with the final spell in the death. He too scalped 3 heads and kept the runs tight from his end. Both of them were supported well by their fellow bowlers and it was a good all-round performance.
A terrific comeback from the Men in Blue towards the end of the innings! Going into the dressing room, they will be very happy with how they've finished with the ball. They got off to a great start, but were then taken for runs in the middle overs and it looked like the game would be taken away from them.

PLAYING XIs
New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson(c), Ross Taylor, Anton Devcich, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi(wk), Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, Trent Boult.
India: Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni(wk/c), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.
Kane Williamson reads the surface as a dry one and hopes they begin well. With the short boundaries he hopes that they will adapt well to the dew coming in later.
MS Dhoni mentions that the groundsman has removed the grass so the pitch should slow down. Reckons that if there is dew they will have to be careful. Acknowledges that New Zealand are a dangerous side, they need to respect them. Ends by saying that you have to start well from scratch.
TOSS: INDIA WIN THE TOSS AND ELECT TO FIELD. No change for India from the previous game. Poor New Zealand have not won a single toss on this tour so far. Three changes for New Zealand - Trent Boult, Anton Devcich and Matt Henry come in for Jimmy Neesham, Ish Sodhi and Doug Bracewell.
Pitch Report - The ball will come on to the bat. Similar to Dharamshala but will only turn more. And with the dew factor coming in, captains will want to bowl first. Dhoni did that in Dharamshala and nothing different is to be expected today from whoever wins the toss. The plan will be, restrict them under 250 and chase the target under the lights, reckon Simon Doull and Sunil Gavaskar.
The Black Caps on the other hand, are in a slump right now. They've not exactly started the series off in the way they would have liked. Barring Tom Latham and Tim Southee, who was dropped, nobody really put up any kind of a fight. New Zealand's dismal performance with the bat didn't leave their bowlers with much of a chance. They'll be raring to turn things around today and get a win under their belt. Let's hope for a good contest.
Hello and welcome for the 2nd of this 5-match ODI series between India and New Zealand. We witnessed the home side continuing their good form from the Test series as they bamboozled the Kiwis in the series opener. It was a collective performance from the entire bowling unit with everybody chipping in. They kept the pressure on and plucked wickets at will. Made it easier for their batsmen who finished it comfortably, with Virat Kohli leading the chase.
