ARG vs FRA | FIFA World Cup 2022: Lionel Messi-led Argentina arrived in Buenos Aires, capital of the country, after defeating defending champions France 4-2 on penalties to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy in Qatar. Argentina football team will reportedly engage in a huge victory parade to join the celebrations at home with their die-hard fans. Notably, the government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday.
"I want to be in Argentina to see how crazy it is. I want them to wait for me, I can't wait to go there and enjoy it with them," Lionel Messi reportedly said after reaching Argentina.
Messi was the star of the show at the Lusail stadium as he scored a brace in a game that Albiceleste dominated. The 35-year-old scored the opening goal of the final in the 23rd minute from a penalty. Angel di Maria would then extend the lead in the 36th minute after finishing off an incredible move that was started by Messi.
Messi, in his 16th and most likely last attempt, starred for Albiceleste. Argentina was on top in the first-half, with Messi scoring the opening goal in 23rd minute from penalty and few minutes later veteran Angel di Maria doubled Argentina's lead in the 36th minute. It seemed Argentina would seal an easy win until Kylian Mbappe's dramatic brace forced the summit clash into extra time. Messi scored one the most precious goals of his entire career in the 108th minute to give his team 32 lead but once again Mbappe struck in the 118th minute to force the game into penalties. All of Argentina's penalty takers scored back-to-back goals, without missing the target to ensure their team secure a 3rd FIFA World Cup trophy on Sunday.
