Since the WTC Final is scheduled to take place from June 7-11 at the Oval in London between India and Australia, former India legend Sunil Gavaskar said that India’s skipper Rohit Sharma should give him a rest. Cricketer turned commentator came up with a remark after Rohit Sharma got out for 2 off 8 deliveries and as a result, Mumbai Indians were outplayed by Gujarat Titans by 55 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“Rohit Sharma should take a break and keep himself fresh for the World Test Championship. Come back again for the last few matches, but right now take a breather himself. He is looking slightly preoccupied, maybe he is thinking about the WTC. I think he needs a little bit of a break,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“Only a miracle can take Mumbai Indians to the playoffs this season. They will have to play some extra-ordinary cricket to qualify to the final four,” Gavaskar said.

In the ongoing IPL 2023, Rohit Sharma has been struggling with his willow as he scored only 181 runs in seven innings with a strike rate of 135.07. The former India batter also criticized the Mumbai Indians’ bowlers and asked the team management to drop those players who are making the same mistakes.

“When the bowlers are making the same mistakes, you have to say thank you very much, take a breather and come back after a few games. Do your study, and figure out where you bowled wrong,” Gavaskar concluded.

Recently, the BCCI declared the Indian squad that will take part in the ICC World Test Championship final.
