Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the hero for his side in the greatest stage of all in franchise cricket as the Men in Yellow beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets to clinch their fifth title. With 10 needed off 2 deliveries and Mohit Sharma in the middle of a fine over, the onus was on Jadeja to help his side get over the line. However, the southpaw first made a superb connection to hit a maximum down the ground before showing remarkable presence of mind off the last ball to steer the ball past the fine leg fielder for a boundary.
Soon after he beat the fine leg fielder, stationed inside the 30-yard circle, CSK's victory was sealed and it was Jadeja who had been at the centre of it all and kept his cool to finish off the game. He remained unbeaten on 15 off 6 deliveries and put his hands up in celebration after the job had been done. After his last-over heroics to help the Men in Yellow secure yet another IPL win, in a heartwarming moment, Jadeja hugged his wife Rivaba. The moment, captured in picture and videos, has gone viral on social media.
Talking about the match, CSK won the toss and invited GT to have a bat first with MS Dhoni expecting a bit of rain later in the day. Gujarat posted 214/4, the highest total in an IPL final riding on superlative knocks from Sai Sudharsan (96 off 47) and Wriddhiman Saha (54 off 39). After rain interrupted CSK's run-chase, they were handed a revised target of 171 in 15 overs. Player of the Match Devon Conway made 47 off 25 while Shivam Dube (32 off 21), Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 13), Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 off 16) and Ambati Rayudu (19 off 8) all chipped but it was Jadeja's cameo which made sure that all of it came on a winning cause and ensured another trophy in the cabinet for Dhoni.
