IPL 2021: Indian Premier League (IPL) is being held in India from 9 April, 2021 to 10 May, 2021 across six venues. At the same time, the corona virus cases in India are also on a rise since the past month or so. There have been multiple reactions by cricketers, from in and out of IPL criticizing the time at which the tournament is being conducted. Mumbai Indians batsman, Chris Lynn had requested for a return back to Australia amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in India.
Australian PM declined this demand by Chris Lynn as the Australian government has suspended all flights to India till at least May 15. PM Morrison said that the IPL cricketers have not traveled for an Australian international tor and no special arrangements could be made for the players. "They are under their own resources and they'll be using those resources, I'm sure, to seek to return to Australia in accordance with our own arrangements," PM Scott Morrison told the news agency AFP.
As of now, Andrew Tye from Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson have already left the IPL.
Apart from these players, many other Australian cricketers are involved in the IPL. Glenn Maxwell, Dan Christian, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, David Warner, Nathan Coulter-Nile, are playing the IPL, while Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey and David Hussey are also part of the IPL’s coaching staff.
