Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Vivrant Sharma scripted history after he made the record of the highest score in the Indian Premier League debut by an Indian batter. He also broke the 15-year-old record and reached the milestone in the game against Mumbai Indians in Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. With the help of Vivrant’s knock, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a total of 200 for the loss of five wickets. The Jammu and Kashmir-based player scored 69 runs off 47 balls, packed with nine fours and two sixes.
Talking about his career so far, he was the leading run scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2022 where he collected 395 runs at an average of 56.42, with one hundred and two fifties.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals’ Swapnil Asnodkar made 60 runs against KKR in 2008 in Jaipur. He carried the highest score record by an Indian for 15 long years in IPL. He represented Goa in first-class cricket, and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
Talking about the game, SRH were invited to bat first where their openers, Vivrant and Mayank Agarwal provided a solid start in the powerplay and made 53 runs without losing any wickets. Eventually, both went on to add 40 runs for the first wicket, with Vivrant scoring 69 in 47 balls and Mayank scoring 83 in just 46 balls and powering SRH to 200/5 in 20 overs.
While chasing a total of 201 runs, Ishan Kishan departed early after scoring 14 runs but skipper Rohit Sharma held the fort and added 128 runs with Cameron Green for the second wicket. Rohit scored 56 in 37 balls while Green scored his first-ever IPL century, ending up with 100* in 47 balls and helping MI win by eight wickets with two overs to spare.
