IPL 2024, MI vs RR Highlights: Rajasthan Royals Defeat Mumbai Indians By 6 Wickets, Register 3rd Straight Win
IPL 2024, MI vs RR Highlights: Helped by the bowlers and Riyan Parag's fifty, Rajasthan Royals defeat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets to register their third consecutive win in the tournament.
Rajasthan comfortably chased down the target despite a slight stumble during the powerplay. Once again, Riyan Parag emerged as their batting star, hitting a fine fifty. However, it was their bowlers who set the stage, with Trent Boult claiming three wickets in the powerplay, followed by Yuzvendra Chahal and Nandre Burger making key contributions to restrict Mumbai to just 125 runs. In response, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his lean start to the season by chipping one straight to covers. Sanju Samson also fell cheaply, chopping one onto his stumps against Akash Madhwal, who struck again to dismiss Jos Buttler. Despite a shaky start at 48/3, the duo of R Ashwin and Riyan Parag stabilized the innings and guided the visitors to victory.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, will have to get their act together as they have now lost all the three matches that they have played in IPL 2024 season.
RR defeat MI by six wickets as Riyan Parag hits Gerald Coetzee for two back-to-back sixes and then followes it up with a boundary. Parag finishes up with 54* runs of 39 balls.
Chawla goes for 10 runs as Parag hits him for a six on the very second ball of the over.
Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack and goes for 7 runs as RR move closer to the third consecutive win. RR are 101-4 after 14 overs.
Ashwin falls to Akash Madhwal! Caught by Tilak Varma!! MI desperately needed that breakthrough, and once again, it's Madhwal who delivers it! Despite the wicket, RR are comfortably poised for an easy win. RR- 94-4 after 13 overs.
Piyus Chawla gives away just three runs in his second over as RR are 87-3 after 12 overs.
Gerald Coetzee comes back into the attack and goes for runs again as he concedes 11 runs off the 11th over. RR are 84-3 after 11 overs.
Riyan Parag and R Ashwin do not seem to be risking it at all and play cautious cricket as Piyush Chawla bowls a tidy over. RR are 73-3 after 10 overs.
Akash Madhwal bowls his third over and goes for eight runs as Rajasthan Royals inch closer towards their target. RR are 68-3 after 9 overs.
Greald Coetzee comes into the attack and concedes 10 runs in the over. Mumbai Indians need wickets at regular intervals, and these expensive overs are only causing the match to slip away from them. RR are 60-3 after 8 overs.
Buttler falls to Akash Madhwal! Caught by Chawla!! The game takes a turn!! Madhwal delivers a short ball, tempting Buttler. Buttler attempts a pull shot but only manages to top-edge it, sending the ball straight into the hands of Chawla stationed at fine leg. R Ashwin is the new batter in. RR are 50-3 after 7 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah bowls his third over and and exceptional one at that. Just two runs cenceded off it.
Akash Madhwal is brought into the attack and affects a dismissal straighaway. Samson gets chopped on! Madhwal bowls short and wide of off, tempts Samson into a lazy drive. With minimal foot movement, Samson edges the ball onto his off-stump, resulting in his dismissal. RR are 44-2 after 5 overs.
Bumrah concedes 11 runs as he is hit for two boundaries in the over. Hardik Pandya could not take what would have been a screamer of a catch at the mid-off region. Jos Buttler gets a reprieve.
Maphaka comes back for his second over and concedes 13 runs as RR are 30-1 after 3 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack and bowls a tidy over, just as is expected off him. RR are 17-1 after 2 overs.
Jaiswal is caught by Tim David off the bowling of Kwena Maphaka, marking Maphaka's maiden IPL wicket. Jaiswal's impulsive shot proved costly - the delivery, on a good length and just outside off, wasn't conducive for a drive. Jaiswal failed to move his feet and ended up chipping the ball uppishly, straight into the waiting hands of Tim David at cover. RR are 11-1 after 1 over. Sanju Samson is the new batter in.
Despite a disappointing batting performance from Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians, credit must be given to the bowlers of the Rajasthan Royals, who maintained a tight grip and remained relentless throughout. Boult made an early impact by claiming two wickets in the 1st over and added another in the 3rd, while Burger had MI struggling at 20 for 4 in the 4th over after dismissing Ishan Kishan. Although there was a brief recovery led by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, Chahal's bowling prowess came to the fore as he dismissed both batters, causing MI to once again falter from 76 for 4 to 114 for 9. Thanks to Bumrah's boundary and a few runs here and there, MI finish on 125-9 after 20 overs. Chasing 126 should be relatively easy for the Royals, particularly against an attack that recovers from the horrors of giving away 277 runs in their previous match.
Mumbai Indians get their total past the 120-runs mark, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's boundary hit in the final over. MI finish their innings at 125-9 after 20 overs. Rajasthan Royals will need 126 to win.
Just one run and a wicket off the Nandre Burger over. MI are 115-9 after 19 overs.
This could be considered as the final nail in Mumbai Indians' coffin as Tim David, the last recognized batter, departs off Nande Burger's delivery.
Another excellent over for RR as Avesh Khan gives away just 2 runs in the 18th over. MI are 114-8 after 18 overs.
Another one goes down as Mumbai Indians lose their 8th wicket. Chahal picks his third wicket for the night. MI are 112-8 after 17 overs.
Trent Boult comes back to deliver his final over and he gives away just 9 runs as he finishes with the figures of 22 runs for 3 wickets after 4 overs. MI are 111-7 after 16 overs.
Despite not having been able to take a wicket, Ashwin finishes with remarkable figures as he only gives away 27 runs in his 4-over spell. MI are 102-7 after 15 overs.
Chahal picks another wicket as MI's set batter- Tilak Varma, departs. MI are in a hole now. 97-7 after 14 overs is the score.
Ashwin bowls another quiet over as MI look like a languishing team.
Tim David is the new batter in in the middle for Mumbai Indians along with Tilak Varma as Avesh Khan bowls a tidy over. MI are 89-6 after 12 overs.
Another wicket falls for Mumbai Indians as Avesh Khan picks his first wicket of the night. It was a short of a length ball bowled outside off and Chawla slashed it towards backward point and Shimron Hetmyer dived towards his right to complete a blinder of a catch.
Ashwin bowls another measly over as MI only get 6 runs off the 11th over.
10 overs are completed and MI have lost half their side. A good over for RR as Chahal gets a wicket and concedes only 2 runs. MI are 77-5 after 10 overs.
Chahal gets the key wicket as Hardik Pandya goes. Just when a partnership was blossoming, Chahal enters the attack and shatters it. Delivering a well-tossed-up ball on middle and leg, Hardik attempts a big shot, lofting it towards long-on, but mishits it completely. Powell stationed in the deep settles under the high catch and safely completes the dismissal.
Ravichandran Ashwin is introduced from the other end. 10 runs from that over, thanks to Hardik Pandya hitting a boundary of the final ball. MI are 75 after 9 overs.
A quite over for RR as they introduce Yuzvendra Chahal into the attack. MI are 65-4 after 8 overs.
Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma look to bring Mumbai Indians back on track as they get 13 runs off the 7th over. Mumbai Indians are 59-4 after 7 overs
Hardik Pandya hits three boundaries in Nandre Burger's over as MI reach 46-4 after 6 overs.
Trent Boult bowls his third over and concedes 10 runs as Tilak Varma hits him for a six on the first ball of the over. MI are 30-4 after 5 overs.

One more wicket! Ishan Kishan falls! Nandre Burger lets out a celebratory scream and why not! The delivery was short and quick outside off, offering good bounce and carry. Ishan Kishan attempts a shot at it, resulting in a thick outside edge that is safely taken by Samson! Test match line from Burger. Hardik Pandya is the new batter in.
Mumbai Indians lose three early wickets and all for goden ducks. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Vrma are the batters in the middle. MI are 16-3 after 3 overs.
Boult delivers to Brevis, and he's caught by Nandre Burger! Another dismissal for a golden duck! Boult is on fire! Bowling a length delivery outside off, it shapes back into the batsman. Brevis attempts a drive, but the outside edge carries straight to short third man.

Boult bowls to Naman Dhir, and he's given out LBW! Two wickets in two balls, and Boult is now on a hat-trick! MI are 1-2 after 1 over.
Trent Boult delivers to Rohit Sharma, and he's caught by Samson! A superb catch by Samson as Rohit edges the ball. Samson dives to his right and pulls off a one-handed catch. Unfortunately, Sharma leaves the field without contributing any runs, marking a golden duck for him.

Sanju Samson has won the toss and Rajasthan Royals will bowl first. Nandre Burger is in for Sandeep Sharma.
Mumbai fans have been relentless in their criticism of their new captain, Hardik Pandya, since the beginning of the tournament, after he took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma. They have subjected him to merciless trolling, and the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium, known for its intensity during IPL matches, could be even more unforgiving. His performance in the last two matches hasn't helped his cause either. Can he deliver a stronger performance and win back the trust of MI fans?

In the previous season, RR came close to defeating MI at the venue, but they were unable to defend their total of 212/7, with Tim David demonstrating his finishing skills.

Welcome to ABP Live's live coverage for the MI vs RR, match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians have not had the best of starts as they lost both their opening games in the tournament. On the other hand Sanju Samson's Rajasthan have played good all-round cricket to win both their encounters so far in the IPL 2024. Will Mumbai Indians break Rajasthan Royals' winning streak to register their first win, or will Rajasthan register their third consecutive victory to go atop the points table?
Background
Welcome to ABP Live's live coverage of Match 14 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, pitting Mumbai Indians (MI) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both the teams have had a contrasting show so far in the tournament. RR have clinched victories in both their IPL 2024 matches, securing the third position on the points table. Meanwhile, MI have suffered defeats in both encounters, languishing at the bottom of the table.
While RR have secured victories in both of their matches, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the five-time champions, MI, have encountered difficulties this season. MI suffered a narrow loss in their opening game against the Gujarat Titans by six runs. In their subsequent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), MI conceded an IPL-record 277 runs in 20 overs and suffered a 31-run defeat, adding to their woes. However, the recent head-to-head record favors MI, especially at the Wankhede Stadium, suggesting they are the favorites in this encounter.
In their past five encounters, MI have dominated RR in the head-to-head battle:
2023: MI secured a comfortable victory by 6 wickets.
2022: MI emerged victorious with a 5-wicket win.
2022: RR managed to break MI's winning streak with a 23-run triumph.
2021: MI continued their dominance with an 8-wicket win.
2021: MI again emerged victorious with a 7-wicket win.
This record suggests MI's historical superiority over RR in recent matchups.
