Background
Mumbai Indians (MI) will host Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. Both the teams are on 10 points from 10 matches after having won 5 and lost 5 of their matches so far. However, due to a better net run rate it is RCB who are placed sixth on the points table while MI are on the eighth position. Punjab Kings (PBKS) with the same number of points but having played an extra match is the side sandwiched between the two teams on the table.
Both sides have a chance to finish at the maximum of 18 points if they win their remaining games. But the side that loses this match can only reach a maximum of 16 points with their remaining fixture becoming more or less must-win contests. No team would ideally want that situation to arrive which is why this game becomes a crucial one.
Moreover, both teams would also want to focus on the game at hand and not look to far forward. In the reverse fixture, RCB had registered a comfortable win and MI would want to avenge that loss. However, Bangalore would be determined to complete a double over MI this season also hurting the five-time winner's chances of proceeding further in the season.
While MI would want their captain Rohit Sharma to be back among the runs, they have also been dealt with a major blow with Jofra Archer being ruled out. For RCB, their middle order and the uncertainty over the number 3 slot remain some of their big concerns.
MI vs RCB Probable Playing XI:
MI: Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Cameron Green, Rohit Sharma (captain), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Arshad Khan
RCB: Faf du Plessis (captain), Virat Kohli, Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Suyash Prabhudesai/Anuj Rawat, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik (wicketkeeper), Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammad Siraj
