MI vs DC HIGHLIGHTS: Mumbai Beat Delhi By 29 Runs To Taste First Win Of IPL 2024
MI vs DC HIGHLIGHTS: Set up by a dominating performance by their batters, MI beat DC by 29 runs to taste their first win of IPL 2024.
MI have points on the board. It's a wicket off the final ball that seals a win for MI. They beat DC by 29 runs. Gerald Coetzee finishes with 4 for 34 but make no mistake it's the batters who have set up this win for the team.
Back-to-back wickets for Coetzee off the third and the fourth balls of the over. Last two balls to go. Just 2 runs off the over then. DC-202/7 after 19.4 Overs.
Coetzee bowling the final over of the match. DC need 34 to win from final 6 balls. Remember MI made 32 off their final 6 balls.
Axar Patel gets run out, trying to get back for second. DC- 194/5 after 18.4 Overs.
Shepherd has conceded two sixes off the first two balls and DC believe they still have an outside chance. It's that man Stubb again whose innings has kept the side alive mathematically.
Bumrah has bowled out here then for MI. He ends up with figures of 4 overs, 2 for 22 in a game where the opposition needed 235 to win. DC now need 55 runs from 12 balls. Possible but not probable.
It's a 19-ball 50 for Stubbs but it's a shame as it looks like it would come in a losing cause. 18 balls to go. DC need 63 to win. They are 172/4 after 17 overs.
It's a 19-ball 50 for Stubbs but it's a shame as it looks like it would come in a losing cause. 18 balls to go. DC need 63 to win. They are 172/4 after 17 overs.
Axar Patel joins Stubbs. DC need 82 runs from 24 deliveries.
WICKET! And Pant's stay at the wicket is cut short by Coetzee and MI. The DC skipper tries for the helicopter in the midwicket region but it's an edge which goes up in the air and finds Hardik underneath it at cover. Pant falls for 1 for 3. DC- 153/4 after 16 overs. Surely MI's game to lose.
Rishabh Pant is the new man in for DC.
And another wicket! It's Bumrah again. Porel and DC cannot afford to play out Bumrah with the required run rate escalating. As a result, the left-hander tries to clear the boundary but finds the fielder. He departs for 41 off 31. MI- 144/3 after 15 Overs. They need 91 runs from 30 balls.
14 Overs bowled. DC- 138/2. They need 97 to win off 36 despite all their effort so far. It's Bumah who is running to bowl his 3rd.
Tristan Stubbs has joined Abishek Porel in the middle.
There's the wicket!! It's a toe-crushing yorker from Jasprit Bumrah who gets rid of a well-set Prithvi Shaw. The DC opener out for 66 off 40. DC- 110/2 after 11.5 Overs.
We are halfway through the innings. Shaw ends the 10th with a SIX. DC- 94/1. They need 141 runs from 60 balls.
15 runs coming off that Coetzee over which went for three boundaries. Two of them off the bat of Prithvi Shaw before Abishek Porel managed to find the fence on the last ball of the over. DC- 84/1 after 9 overs.
Half-century comes up for Prithvi Shaw. Good knock this but DC need him to continue and covert this into a really big score .
Piyush Chawla taken to the cleaners in his first over of the match. It's Shaw who hits him for a SIX, FOUR and FOUR off successive deliveries. DC get 16 runs off the 8th over. DC- 69/1 after 8 overs.
Starts off with a tidy over. 5 Singles and a couple off it. After the end of 7 overs, DC- 53/1.
DC get 13 runs off the over. A boundary off the first ball and another off the fifth ball of Shepherd's second over. DC- 46/1 after 6 overs.
Akash Madhwal is first ramped over the keeper's head for a boundary from Shaw before another boundary on the on side from the same batter. 9 runs come off the over. After 5, DC-33/1. They need 202 runs to win from 90 balls. DC going nowhere with this chase.
As if Shepherd had not done enough damage already, he deceives Warner after getting hit for a six on the previous ball from him. It's a slower ball which the Aussie fails to ready and only manages to hit it as far as mid on. DC- 22/1 after 3.4 Overs.
Jasprit Bumrah from the other end. Prithvi gets a ball down leg side and Shaw helps himself to a boundary off the over. DC- 11/0 after 2 overs.
There's the first boundary off the innings. Shaw clears the third-man boundary after Coetzee gets width on offer. DC get 7 off the 1st over.
Prithvi Shaw, David Warner open for DC. They need 235 runs to win. Gerald Coetzee with the new ball in hand for MI.
How do we describe that? Not a single half-century in this innings but MI post their third highest total- 234/5. It all started with the kind of start provided from Rohit (49 off 27) and Ishan (42 off 23) before the aboslute masterclass finish from Tim David (45* off 21) and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10). 32 off Shepherd's 39 came in the final over alone. Last 4 overs, going for 80. Not to forget Hardik Pandya's 39 off 33. For DC, Axar Patel (2/35) and Khaleel Ahmed (1/39) were the pick of the bowlers but their batters will have a massive task if they need to chase this total down. Will be back with the chase.
Romario Shepherd! What an innings this. He finishes the MI innings with SIX, FOUR, SIX. Sheer brute force that has been effective for him at the Wankhede as MI finish at 234/5 after 20 overs. 32 runs coming off the final over and Shepherd remains unbeaten on 39 off 10.
Over number 20 has started just how MI would have imagined. It's Shepherd who is playing a blinder of a knock. Nortje has no clue where to bowl to him.
It's a Tim David special towards the back end of the innings that has taken MI past 200 with an over to go. He hits a six and two boundaries off this over. A six and a four to finish the 19th. Tim David-45* off 21.
Sharma has the ball in hand as he comes running in to bowl over number 19.
Hardik Pandya departs for 39 off 33. It's not the best of ball but he has found the fielder while trying to clear the fence on the leg side. MI- 181/5 after 17.5 Overs.
It's a boundary off the first ball of the 18th over. David helps it past the fine leg fielder before getting a high full toss, called no-ball, for a six. This is exactly the kind of finish MI were needed after those wickets.
Nortje has the ball in hand. He will bowl the 18th over. He will probably come back to finish off the innings as well for DC.
MI make this over count. First a six over midwicket from David before a maximum from Hardik to finish off the over. MI fetch 17 runs off the over. Surely 200 is on from here. MI- 167/4 after 17 overs. Khaleel Ahmed finishes with: 4-0-39-1.
Khaleel Ahmed will bowl out now. David, Hardik in the middle for MI. Can the hosts get past 190?
MI- 150/4 after 16 overs. 12 coming off the 16th, with the help of that six that came off the first ball.
It's a six off the first ball of the 16th over. Richardson tries a slower one but David is up and ready for it and starts the over with a maximum.
15 Overs bowled then. Match hanging in balance or so it seems at this stage. Ishant Sharma came back for his second and just delivered a boundary-less over. MI- 138/4 after 15 overs.
8 runs coming off the 14th over. David finding the boundary off the over. This MI team will bat deep, remember. So they can still eye a total in excess of 200. But can they get there?Jhye Richardson completes his 3rd over. MI- 131/4 after 14 overs.
Tim David is the new man in for MI. Jhye Richardson from the other end for DC.
Seems like Mumbai are losing their way after that superb start as another MI batter goes back in the pavilion. This time it's Tilak Varma who has to walk back for 6 off 5. It's a short and wide ball from Khaleel Ahmed but Varma cuts it straight to back point where Axar grabs a smart catch. MI-121/4 after 12.4 Overs.
A contender for the Catch of the Tournament this as a well-timed Ishan Kishan shot is hit back at speed by Ishan Kishan but Axar Patel grabs his hand to complete the catch off his own bowling. 3 down now MI and Kishan falls just when it looked he was trying to up the ante. MI- 111/3 after 10.2 Overs. Ishan- 42 off 23.
Hardik has joined Kishan. Axar, Nortje bowling well in tandem. Hardik has struck a couple of boundaries though. Looking in fine nick.
MI captain Hardik Pandya walks in at 4.
WICKET!! It's a two-ball duck for Suryakumar Yadav on return to competitive cricket. Anrich Nortje gets rid of SKY. It's a length ball on middle-leg but instead of going over mid on, Suryakumar has chipped that one straight to the fielder. MI- 81/2 after 7.3 Overs.
And Rohit falls! Axar bowls a quicker one which skids on to rattle the battle's off stump. He goes back for 49 off 27 at the end of the 7th over mark. MI- 80/1 after 7 overs. A boundary and a single off the first two balls of the over from Kishan were the only scoring shots in the over. Post that three dots and the wicket ball to end the over from Axar. Much-needed breakthrough from DC this.
15 runs come off the final over of the powerplay. Rohit is on absolute fire this afternoon. He has hit Lalit Yadav for three boundaries in the over to race to 49 off 23. Ishan Kishan is batting on 20 off 13 as MI end the powerplay at 75/0.
Rohit Continuing His Splendid Form. He goes after Axar Patel straight away. Swept over fine leg for a SIX off the second ball before a BOUNDARY off the fourth ball of a similar shot. 14 runs come off the 5th over. MI- 60/0 after 5 overs.
It's the Hitman who is firing for MI. Jhye Richardson might have come in one change for DC but Rohit has his intentions clear. He smashes the pull over square leg for the first maximum off the second ball of the over before another maximum off the very next ball which was pitched fuller and the former captain played a pick-up stroke to get the same result. Overall, 13 come off the over. MI- 46/0 after 4 overs.
Some fine stroke-making form Kishan too. He ends Khaleel's second over with FOUR, Two, FOUR!! A pull over mid-on to get the first boundary of the over, then a shot over mid-off for a couple before a well-timed shot over the bowler's head to end the over. MI fetch 12 runs off the third over. MI- 33/0 after 3 overs. Some start this by the five-time champions at the Wankhede.
Ishant Sharma has the ball in hand from the other end! Back-to-back boundaries from Rohit. First he sends a scoop over fine leg before going up and over mid off. Both going for boundaries. Then one goes for four wides down the leg side. A better finish from Ishant, 14 runs off the over. MI- 21/0 after 2 overs.
MI's innings is up and running. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan open for MI. Khaleel Ahmed has the new ball in hand for DC. Kishan gets a short and wide ball outside off which he deposits for a boundary. At the end of the 1st over then, MI- 7/0.
