Jitesh Sharma will lead Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scheduled to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Notably, while designated captain Shikhar Dhawan has been on the sidelines for much of the season after sustaining a shoulder injury, Sam Curran, who was the team's vice-captain and was leading the team in Dhawan's absence has also flown back to England ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

With both captain and vice-captain not available for selection for the team's final league game, the team has announced wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma as their captain for the team's final fixture of IPL 2024.

Jitesh Sharma Beats Shashank Singh, Harshal Patel To Become PBKS Captain

While there were several media reports which suggested that it could be Harshal Patel or Shashank Singh who would captain PBKS in their last game, the team management decided to go ahead with Jitesh.

The result of the match will be inconsequential as far as the qualification for the IPL 2024 Playoffs are concerned as PBKS' opponents Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have already sealed a place in the final four with the remaining three places also sealed by the time match commences. PBKS have long been out of the Playoffs race. Having said that, Jitesh will want to help PBKS sign off with a win.
