Delhi Capitals faced its fourth successive defeat in the 20223 edition of IPL as they lost the game against Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Even though they lost the match, Delhi’s vice-captain Axar Patel is still hopeful and reckons that his team will keep a positive approach.
“After four losses, there are two ways to think – one is you sit back thinking that you’ve lost four games, the run rate is poor and the qualification is at stake, there is nothing good that’s going to come out of it,” he said.
“On the other hand, if you have a positive attitude, and think about what you’re going to do in the next match, you will be able to bring the performance that you want to bring. It’s important to remain positive and that’s what we keep talking about,” added Axar during the post-match conference.
Even after Delhi’s skipper David Warner scored a half-century, he is still under scrutiny because of his poor strike rate. He made 51 off 47 balls, getting his third fifty in Indian Premier League.
“No one has asked him (to anchor the innings).”
“Even in the last couple of games, when he has been trying to hit, it’s not been coming off. As a batsman, I don’t know what he is thinking at that moment. When Prithvi is batting, he has to anchor but after that when wickets keep falling in front of him, it’s not good to keep attacking. Even when he is trying, it’s not coming off. Everyone spoke to him – Ricky (Ponting) , (Shane) Watson, Dada. The conversation about his strike rate also came up. They looked at his videos and he’s working on it,” he said.
Apart from David Warner, Axar Patel also played a brilliant knock of 54 off 25 balls and helped Delhi Capitals to a competitive total of 172.
