IPL Retention 2025: MS Dhoni is confirmed to play Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after being retained by the franchise ahead of the mega-auction. The same was confirmed after the five-time IPL winners announced the list of players they will be retaining on the IPL Retention Deadline on October 31 (Thursday).
CSK have retained captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a sum of Rs 18 crore, Mateesha Pathirana for Rs 13 crore, Shivam Dube for Rs 12 Crore, Ravindra Jadeja for Rs 18 crore while picking 'uncapped' Dhoni for Rs 4 crore. The retentions leave Chennai with a purse of Rs 55 Crore heading into the IPL Mega Auction. That also leaves the franchise with one Right To Match (RTM) option.
CSK Most Successful Franchise In The History Of IPL
Notably, CSK are among the most successful side with five titles to their name along with Mumbai Indians (MI). However, it is pertinent to note that the Men in Yellow did not two play in two editions of the competition which means the same number of wins in two fewer editions.
Even though Dhoni has handed over the IPL captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, the rule of an Indian player not having played an international match in the last five years being treated as an uncapped player, has allowed him to remain associated with the team for 4 crore.
