Rajat Patidar Captaincy Record In IPL: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) named Rajat Patidar as their new captain for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition, making him the eighth player to lead the franchise.
With Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) still in pursuit of their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title, Patidar now shoulders the responsibility of changing the team's fortunes after Faf du Plessis' leadership stint ended without a trophy.
Rajat Patidar's captaincy record
While Rajat Patidar will be leading an Indian Premier League (IPL) team for the first time, he has prior experience as captain in domestic cricket. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he led Madhya Pradesh in 15 matches, securing 12 wins and suffering just three losses.
Patidar's journey with RCB
Rajat Patidar was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2021 for Rs 20 lakh and has since become a key player. Ahead of IPL 2025, the franchise retained him for Rs 11 crore, showing their trust in his abilities. In 27 IPL matches so far, he has scored 799 runs, including a century and seven half-centuries.
Rajat Patidar faces tough road ahead as RCB captain in IPL 2025
With RCB still in search of its maiden IPL title, Patidar faces a tough challenge in his debut season as captain.
Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood's injury has left a gap in RCB's bowling attack. While the squad has other pace options, none can truly replace Hazlewood's impact. Also, the team lacks a world-class spinner.
Since its inception in 2008, RCB has come close to winning the IPL multiple times but has fallen short each time. The pressure will be immense on Patidar to finally break the title drought.
Apart from captaincy, Patidar will be a key middle-order batter for RCB. Managing the dual responsibility of leading the side and delivering with the bat will be crucial for his and RCB's fortunes in IPL 2025.
