Mumbai Indians (MI) will be without their regular captain, Hardik Pandya, in their opening match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a one-match suspension for slow over-rate from last season.

Since the ban was imposed after MI had completed their IPL 2024 campaign, it now carries over to the new season (IPL 2025). In Hardik's absence, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team for the first match.

Nine Players Have Led Mumbai Indians in T20s

A total of nine players have captained Mumbai Indians in T20 cricket. Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav has previously led the team in one match, securing a victory. The other captains in MI's history include Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Ricky Ponting, Shaun Pollock, and Dwayne Bravo.

Rohit Sharma's unparalleled leadership

Rohit Sharma stands as Mumbai Indians' most successful captain, having led the team in 163 matches, winning 91 and losing 68. He remains the only MI skipper to captain in over 100 matches and guided the franchise to five IPL titles, cementing his legacy as one of the tournament's greatest leaders. Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, captained MI in 55 matches.
