MI Captain In IPL 2025: One franchise that is perhaps experiencing the maximum turbulence ahead of IPL 2025 is Mumbai Indians (MI). While there are several changes expected in their team, the biggest one is related to their captaincy. Notably, Hardik Pandya was made the team captain before IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper who had led the team to five titles- the joint most by a single captain in the tournament's history. 


However, under Hardik's capataincy, MI put on an uninspiring show, finishing at the rock bottom of the 10-team table. Suryakumar Yadav could be made the new team captain. It is being learnt that Rohit Sharma along with several other players in the team are not happy with Hardik's captaincy.

While there hasn't been an official announcement yet but several media reports including the one by Dainik Jagran claimed that the team had divided in two groups- one who see Rohit as their leader and the other who want Hardik to be the captain with the owners supporting the India all-rounder.


Who Is Rohit Sharma Backing To Lead MI?


There are all sorts of theories floating around related to Rohit Sharma in IPL. The most popular one is that he will be released by the franchise and two teams have already keeping big money in their purse to go all-out for him- the two teams happen to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC). However, in case he were to remain at MI, it is being speculated that Rohit is backing Suryakumar Yadav to lead the franchise, another claim which has not independently been verified by ABP Live.

It is pertinent to note that Suryakumar Yadav even succeeded Rohit as the T20I captain despite Hardik Pandya being Rohit's deputy in Team India's victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Suryakumar can then have captaincy ambitions in IPL and if MI do not give him the chance, there is a possibility of other teams
