IPL 2025: The seveneeth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dominating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final on May 26, 2024 (Sunday). It was a fairly one-sided affair as KKR first restricted SRH down to the lowest total ever in an IPL final at 113 before chasing down the target in 14.2 overs.
IPL 2024 was a record-breaking tournament in more ways than one. However, with the competition done and dusted and a long wait for IPL 2025, here is what we know so far of the next season of the biggest cricket league in the world.
IPL 2025 Auction: Unlike IPL 2024 Auction which was a mini-auction, IPL 2025 will be a mega auction. Each team will be given a limited number of retention options with the remaining players going back at the Auction Pool. The Right To Match card is also likely to be given to each franchise. While IPL 2024 Auction was the first time, the bidding war stepped out of India, there is no confirmation for the IPL 2025 Auction Venue as yet.

Venues: IPL 2025 is likely to be played in the same home and away format like IPL 2024. However, while there are certain teams that played each other once and others squaring off twice in the season, all teams might lock horns against each other two times in the course of the competition in IPL 2025. Although there is no official confirmation on the format, the assumption is being made based on a proposed 84 matches next season to the broadcasters (Diseny Star and Jio), compared to 74 of this year. The number is likely to increase to 94 by 2027.
Teams: Given the proposed 84 matches and the home and away format, introduction of new teams is unlikely. This means the same ten teams are likely to feature in IPL 2025- Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Titans (GT), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Dates: Much like IPL 2024, IPL 2025 will be played in the March-May window with little to no international cricket played in that period. Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 is likely to clash with IPL next season.
