MS Dhoni in IPL 2025: Five-time IPL champion MS Dhoni has not yet confirmed his participation in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. According to the latest reports regarding the player retention policy, each franchise may retain up to five players, likely comprising three Indian and two foreign players. However, BCCI is yet to make an official announcement regarding retention rules for the new season.

It was recently reported that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will do everything possible to retain Dhoni if he chooses to play in IPL 2025. However, if Dhoni decides not to participate, it could be a major disappointment for fans.

As reported by the Indian Express, a CSK source indicated that they have not yet received a response from Dhoni. More clarity will come once BCCI makes a final decision regarding retention numbers.

In IPL 2024, MS Dhoni played under Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy and delivered remarkable performances despite dealing with a knee injury.

However, there are now doubts about his participation in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Some reports indicated that Dhoni might take on the role of mentor for CSK in new IPL season, but that was rubbished by franchise's CEO, Kasi Viswanathan. Fans are keen to 'Thala' back on the field playing for his team as a player once again.

A mega auction is scheduled to occur before the new IPL season, potentially taking place later this year in November or December. This auction is expected to see exchange of many players, and several teams may also experience changes in captaincy. BCCI is anticipated to release the rules regarding the mega auction shortly.
