Talented youngster Shubman Gill (58-ball 101) smashed his maiden IPL century to help defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Monday (May 15) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. By virtue of this win, Gujarat Titans (GT) became first-ever team to qualify for IPL 2023 Playoffs. Gujarat Titans scored 188 runs after being invited to bat first. In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad got bundled up for only 154 runs.

Shubman's maiden IPL ton helped him become the sixth batsman to score a century in the ongoing 2023 IPL season and first-ever Gujarat Titans batter in IPL history to notch up a ton. Gill has so far scored  576 runs in 13 IPL matches at an average of 48 and is now the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2023 thus far. Shubman still holds the record of being the highest scorer for Gujarat Titans in an innings. Before his maiden IPL ton vs SRH on May 15, Gill had played an innings of 96 runs against Punjab Kings in last year's IPL.

There was an outpour of congratulatory messages and wishes for Shubman Gill on social media, soon after he scored his maiden IPL ton but one special message that stood out among all was from one of the greatest batters of all time, RCB legend Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli took to Instagram to post a picture of Shubman Gill on his story with the caption, "There's potential and then there's gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you @shubmangill" followed by a star emoji.
