Royal Challengers Bangalore batting legend Virat Kohli, highest run-getter in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL), made a dream start to his IPL 2023 campaign. The star batter produced an epic knock of 82 off just 49 balls to power Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to an 8-wicket win against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Virat had a horror season last year in IPL which marked the beginning of his downfall but after taking a month-long break the RCB legend made an astounding comeback in August 2022 and since then he hasn't looked back at all. The 34-year-old continues to rise and shine across formats, adding four more centuries across Tests and ODIs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win an IPL final and Virat Kohli is the key for them to create history in world's richest T20 tournament.

Meanwhile, one of Virat's former RCB teammates, Mohammad Kaif, shared an interesting tale about the batter's hunger for runs during the initial years of IPL.

“There was this one time when Virat Kohli got out the same way he was dismissed today (vs KKR on Thursday). I was sitting right beside him, and I thought he will definitely throw his bat in anger. And yes, when he came, he threw his bat straightaway, removed his pad. I was sitting beside him, and he said, ‘I’m going to score big the next time',” Kaif recalled during his commentary stint on Star Sports.

“In the next innings, he scored an unbeaten 72. Imagine. He had gone out, and he was upset. But he forgot that before coming to bat in the next match, scored 72. Then, I realised that this player is special,” Kaif further said.

After making a great start in RCB's tournament-opener, Virat failed to continue from where he left when he came out to bat in RCB's second match of IPL 2023 as the star batter managed to score mere 21 runs off 18 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders. In this match, KKR outplayed RCB by 81 runs. The Bangalore-based franchise will aim to bounce back when they take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 10.
