There's hardly any wicketkeeper in the modern era who can match MS Dhoni's lightning quick skills behind the wickets. The legendary Chennai Super Kings skipper was at his best during his team's recent IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (April 21). The 41-year-old was involved in three dismissals in CSK vs SRH IPL 2023 match after Chennai invited Hyderabad to bat first. First, Dhoni completed a remarkable catch behind the stumps to send SRH skipper Aiden Markram back to the dugout and a short while later, he pulled off a quick stumping to end Mayank Agarwal' stay at the crease.
Dhoni was involved in a stunning run-out on final ball of SRH's innings as he pulled off an incredible direct-hit to dismiss Washington Sundar, restricting Hyderabad to a party 134.
In a viral video, four-time IPL winner MS Dhoni can be seen practicing for the run-out, seconds before he actually pulled it off on the final ball. The video yet again proves how exceptional Dhoni's game awareness is and how brilliantly he 'plans and practices for those moments.'
Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets
A remarkable spell from MOTM Ravindra Jadeja (three wickets for just 22 runs) and a fiery innings from opener Devon Conway (77 runs in just 57 balls) powered Chennai to a seven-wicket win with eight balls remaining.
After the game, MS Dhoni hilariously expressed his frustration at not getting the 'best catch award.'
"Still they didn't give me the best catch. I was in such a wrong position. Just because we wear gloves people think it's very easy. I felt it was a fantastic catch not because of the ability but at times you are at the wrong place at the wrong time and you catch it," said Dhoni in the post-match presentation.
"Long time back, I still remember one game when Rahul Dravid was keeping. Rahul bhai caught something like that. With your skillset you cannot take a catch like that. You have to be at a very wrong position to take a catch like that," Dhoni added.
